Pepsi, a dedicated and valued member of our site, has purchased us a Halo PC server to help spread the word about Open Carnage.
QUOTE It's a 16 man public server based in Chicago. I picked Chicago since it is mid USA and offers the best "global" ping for most players. Info/Spec's on the server can be found here: http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/8.12.22.3:2302/
Big thanks to Pepsi for this, now let's get some use out of it!

ModHalo is now Open Carnage!

ModHalo is now Open Carnage!

Some of you had some idea it was coming, some of you had no idea it was coming, but it was inevitable. With the opening of Open Carnage, we hope to retain all Halo aspects of ModHalo, but open up the website to new venues. Although there have only been [relatively] minor changes so far, we hope that this switch will pave the way for a more broad forum. We planned to open Open Carnage with a few more features, but because of time constraints, that wasn't possible. Rest assured, you will see some updates over the course of the summer. There are bound to be some kinks during the transfer, so if you have any suggestions, feel free to post them here. Thanks for all your support along the way! We hope to keep it throughout Open Carnage's lifetime. And don't forget to thank Pepsi and Nessa for their work on the banner!

Halo: ODST Release Date and Halo: Reach Confirmed

Halo: ODST Release Date and Halo: Reach Confirmed

Today was a big day for Halo at the E3 gaming convention. Bungie developer Joe Staton announced Bungie's new game, Halo: Reach, which will be released sometime in 2010. The game will presumably be a prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved. He also let us know that Halo: ODST, the Halo 3 expansion for the Xbox 360, will be dropping in on September 22, 2009. He also played a short demo of the game, which featured the main character, "The Rookie," being dropped on New Mombasa after a Covenant slip space rupture. The ODST makes his way through the map, using new (or old) weapons, such as the suppressed SMG, and yes, the Halo 1 pistol. At the end of the trailer, The Rookie finds an old explosive detonator, which cues a flashback. For an unofficial look at the demo, check out GA's post.
At the end of Joe's segment, he played a teaser trailer for Halo: Reach, which is not yet available. The trailer showed, presumably, the planet where Spartans are trained, Reach. As background radio chatter grew, the planet was glassed by the Covenant. At the end of the segment, Joe let us know that gamers who purchase Halo: ODST this September will get a demo of Halo: Reach.

New Halo Game Rumored, Halo: Reach

New Halo Game Rumored, Halo: Reach

Kotaku reported on several factors that might point towards a new Halo game, possibly called Halo: Reach. It seems that on Bungie's forums, there was a subforum called Halo: Reach, which was briefly viewable. Some of you may know of the novel, Halo: The Fall of Reach, which serves as the prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved. And, in September 2008, Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft Game Studios talked about four Halo "things" that were in the works at that time. The first two being Halo Wars, and Halo: Chronicles, a movie somehow linked with Peter Jackson. The third "thing" can be assumed as Halo: ODST, the Halo 3 expansion, which was announced one month after Phil Spencer talked about the four. With spot left unaccounted for, it's possible that Halo: Reach may be that fourth project. The anonymous guy who provided Kotaku with the image of the subforum claims that an ODST forum will go live June 1 and Halo: Reach will be released in the Fall of 2010. Of course, this is all rumored, but if anything is in the works, we will likely hear about it at E3.

BuTube Public Beta

BuTube Public Beta
| Posted By:

@ May 12 2009, 07:25 PM |
Bungie's highly anticipated render-to-video service, also known as BuTube, is now in public beta (sort of). The beta is available to anyone who purchased a Bungie Pro subscription before yesterday morning. That means if you order a Bungie Pro subscription today, you still will not be allowed to participate in the beta. However, early Pro members, whose subscriptions might have lapsed, are included. Also, note that this is for "paid" subscriptions only, meaning if you got Bungie Pro via a Legendary or Mythic DLC promotional offer, you are not eligible for the beta.
To create a video, save a film or clip to your File Share. While on Bungie.net, click "Render Film" and it will tell you how much it costs in "Bungie points," based on the length of the file and the resolution you want it to render. Currently, you can render your films in standard definition (640x360 WMV at 1 Mbps) or High definition (1280x720 WMV at 6 Mbps).
The plan for Bungie points is as follows: Bungie Pro subscribers will get enough points per month to for, say, one short clip, at no additional cost. More intense users will be able to buy point packs using a pay-as-you-go model.
The beta will last until sometime in July. Read the full article at Bungie for extra details.
